Dr. Austin has been honored as a “Top Dentist” in Phoenix Magazine since 2003. In addition to his dental degree (D.D.S.), Dr. Austin also has a medical degree (M.D.).
Dr. Porter has been honored as a “Top Dentist” in Phoenix Magazine since 2003. He is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.
Dr. Boyse has been honored as a “Top Dentist” in Phoenix Magazine since 2003. He is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.
Dr. Kelly has been honored as a “Top Dentist” in Phoenix Magazine since 2008. He is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
Dentistry has been a lifelong interest for Dr. Austin. He says, “I was fascinated with dentistry the very first time I went to a dentist, and when I was finishing college it was the profession I most wanted to pursue.” Dr. Austin left his home in Santa Paula, California to attend Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. While there he married his wife Nancy and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. They moved to Iowa City to attend the University of Iowa School of Dentistry. Dr. Austin achieved high honors in dental school and was inducted into the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, for outstanding academic and clinical achievement. He completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and also obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Austin looks forward to coming to work every day because he feels the profession of oral surgery “is a wonderful combination of science and art. I love how dentistry and my specialty in particular combine facial form and function with the beauty of a smile.” Dr. Austin has had the opportunity to serve on medical/dental missions to Honduras and Mexico.
According to Dr. Austin, much of his success can be attributed to his “wonderful, supportive wife Nancy.” They have been married since 1980 and have four children. He enjoys fishing, gardening, baseball, serving his church and spending time with his family. As for his black belt in Taekwondo? He says “I obtained that to protect myself from my three sons who also enjoy the martial arts.”
As a young man growing up in Provo, Utah, Dr. Bradley Porter was first introduced to the practice of oral surgery during a visit to his best friend's uncle. He says “After observing his practice, I knew it was what I wanted to do.” His determination to become an oral surgeon remained with him through his undergraduate years at Brigham Young University and helped him excel in his studies at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where he was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Society. He remained at the University of Iowa to complete his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Porter explains “I love oral surgery because of the variety of procedures I am able to perform – from minor surgical procedures to major reconstructive cases. I get a lot of satisfaction from changing patients' lives for the better.” Dr. Porter and his wife Jan were married in 1980. They have five children and several grandchildren. Their family has enjoyed traveling together to Hawaii, Ireland, and Australia. Dr. Porter is also an accomplished athlete, having completed numerous Ironman triathlons including the World Championship in Hawaii as well as the Boston Marathon. An Eagle Scout, he has served over 20 years in the Boy Scouts, including a staff position at the 2010 Boy Scout National Jamboree.
Dr. Porter has held Board Certification since 1993 through the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. For him, “Oral surgery is not just a job – I can't imagine myself doing anything other than being an oral surgeon.” Even at home he has been called upon to stitch up cuts for the neighborhood children. Once, he came to the rescue of a neighbor's dog that had been hit by a car. He says “People trust me and know I have their best interests at heart.”
A Mesa native, Dr. Boyse was inspired to pursue dentistry by a sense of community. “Growing up, I was surrounded by excellent dentists who were able to serve their communities. Through their influence, I decided that dentistry would give me the opportunity to serve the people of the community where I grew up.” He graduated with honors from the University of the Pacific – Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, where he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency in Rochester, New York. He became Board Certified in 2005 through the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Boyse and his wife Tracy, also an Arizona native, live in Gilbert with their five children. The family stays busy with a number of activities, including sports, camping, and water sports. Dr. Boyse says, “When we are home, our interests revolve around getting our children to their sporting events, music lessons, and serving in our church.” Dr. Boyse has a passion for implant dentistry, and much of his time out of the office is spent on continuing education – both as a participant and as a lecturer. He is a respected speaker, lecturing for Biomet 3i and helping to educate dentists across the nation on topics ranging from dental implants to providing exceptional patient care.
Dr. Boyse loves his profession because it gives him the opportunity to improve people's lives and be involved in the dental community. “We have a community of great dentists in the Phoenix area, and it is a pleasure to be a part of their dental team. When I see people who are so embarrassed of their teeth that they avoid smiling, it gives me joy to help them regain their confidence to smile, laugh, and eat the foods they love.”
Dr. Kelly recalls, “I was introduced to oral and maxillofacial surgery by my scoutmaster. It was fascinating then – and still is today. I have always loved working with my hands. My parents bought me real tools as a young child and I have had one in my hands of one kind or another since.” He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Utah in his native home of Salt Lake City. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry he completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Dr. Kelly is Board Certified through the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He has been published in six journal articles and authored a chapter in a textbook about dental implants. The part of dentistry that truly appeals to Dr. Kelly is patient care. He says, “I have a passion for my patients and want them to know they can reach me anytime they need to. They make my day, and I want to make them feel comfortable.” He also finds the procedures in oral surgery to be exciting and rewarding. He notes that some procedures, such as wisdom teeth removal and jaw surgery, are essential, while others, such as dental implants, help people to function and look better, as well as live more confident lives.
Dr. Kelly and his wife Kara live in Gilbert with their four children. He enjoys running, golf, softball, waterskiing, church, Scouting, and spending time with his family. He recognizes that his “wife has been a strength to me throughout training” and “having four children is a constant reminder to prioritize life and maintain a clear perspective on what matters most.”
